Four: A Divergent Collection

Now that I've joined the wiki I'll be sharing my thoughts and opinions myself! I have Four and I think since not many people have read it and it's short compared to the other ones I'll just post all the updates in this comment section. :)

So as I said in the earlier post, I found the Four series books.

And We can be Mended and some other book too. So that some other book's named Free Four: Tobias Tells the Divergent Story (basically book 1.5).

So like... Is it necessary to read? What's the book about? Is it in Tobias's pov?

I just wanted to say hello because I'm new here. I just finished the book series and was (and still am) so in love with the books. I'm just wondering if anyone else has read or is reading the extra book in the series called "Four". It's much shorter and it's just about Tobias' life when he was choosing and it's from his perspective too. It has his initiation and all that too. It's really interesting and I have yet to read all of it. I especially love how at the end there are three little scenes where in Divergent the scene was in Tris' perspective but instead these excerpts show it from Tobias'. 😁 let me know if you've read it or are reading, I'd love to hear your opinions on it

Has anyone read the Four Collection? I haven’t so please don’t spoil it but I just wanted to know, if you have, what did you think?

I have read Divergent in my language already, but I decided to read the original as well. And the box set came today!

In which language did you read it?

I think it was mentioned I just can’t remember, I tried searching it through pages myself but I’ve got no luck.

Im starting to think it wasn’t even mentioned.

Its not in the Choosing scene, in the transfer

Maybe it was mentioned at his excicution?

Or the ranking?

Is his last name even in the book?

"Four" gave us quite us insight into the life of... well, Four. I'm not sure about the other non-main books as I haven't read them. So yeah, a bit of spoilers here for that book. Plus if you use things from other books, I don't mind the spoilers.

So what do you think would likely have happened had Tris not went into Dauntless?

Or, for that matter, what if Four didn't go into Dauntless?

I think that the matter of "Minus Tris" is kinda hard, since it's quite hard to figure out how Four might have tried to stop the... forgot what it was called, but basically the event that happened in Divergent.

My gut tells me that Four would have just given up on Dauntless. Most likely, he would have joined the factionless, in my opinion.

If Four didn't get into Dauntless though, then... there's more things to consider, but they're easier. For example, it was mentioned that Eric would have happily let the initiates harm/kill each other. So Tris would get killed? That's another factor: If Four didn't get into Dauntless, Eric might have been nicer. He has no competition now. Since he is "jealous" of Four, he might be more ruthless, so it might be that he would actually be kinder had Four not gotten into Dauntless. So I would give it a 50% chance that Tris would survive. Eric would have blindly been a puppet to the plans, and since Four isn't available, the best Tris could go was likely to retreat. At this point it is likely that the factionless will make their move, and Tris, alongside other Divergent, may join them.

BUT.

Remember, the question isn't if Four didn't exist. It's if he didn't transfer. This doesn't change the "If Tris didn't transfer" part as she is unlikely to do much. Maybe just another Divergent.

However, if Four didn't transfer, he would be with his father. We know enough that Marcus, if he didn't love Four, at least counted on him (Marcus was visibly shocked when Four transferred). Actually... we can't call him Four in this alternate universe.

So Tobias knew that he was special. He knew he wasn't supposed to be aware. If he couldn't do anything else, he might even tell his father. The war is being set upon Abnegation, after all. But that's not the most interesting part. The most interesting part is that, sooner or later, he would likely find Evelyn. Evelyn would definitely trust him due to obvious reason, and Tobias was already decent at fighting. Therefore, if Tobias did not transfer to Dauntless, if Tris had managed to survive, there's actually a good chance that nothing major will change!

Have you guys thought about this?

I just finished Allegiant, and realized that Tobias actually faces and overcomes most of his fears throughout the final book.

For instance, Tobias ends up zip-lining in honor of Tris’s memory, which shows that he faced his fear of heights and therefore got over his fear, and another fear he had was of Marcus, his father. Later on throughout the book, Tobias tells that he let that fear go. And his third fear was watching Tris die, in front of his eyes, while this doesn’t exactly happen in front of Tobias’s eyes, Tris does die. So, he actually lives and faces three out of four of his fears. Which leaves him with his fourth and final fear, his fear of confinement.

What I am trying to point out is, Four does not have four fears after Allegiant, he actually has one.

Which makes his new nickname “One”

P.S.

His nickname is Four and will stay as Four, just because his fear count changes doesn’t mean that his name will automatically change. I just thought about this randomly, and thought it was ironic after reading the final book in the series, that’s all :)

I finally purchased the Four: A Divergent Collection book from Barnes and Noble! Im so excited to read it after I finish Trials of Apollo. Out of ten stars, how many stars would you give the novel?

so idk if u guys read "four, a divergent collection," but if so, and if u happened to read veronica's acknowledgments in the very back, u might've seen how she ended her lil spiel. she says, "i feel like it's only fitting to end with a <4" was this supposed to be a play on "<3" but with four cuz duh. or was there something i missed lol ?
